26/365: The place we live in

I’m stressed about job searching, so naturally I decided to write about some other issue.

A society of individualism.

We say society, but I think it’s safe to say that we have lost the meaning of it somewhere in translation and transformation.

Let’s Google it, shall we?
I get 2 definitions.
1. The aggregation of people living together in a more or less ordered community.
2. An organization or club formed for a particular purpose or activity.

We are an aggregation of people living together, but is it an ordered community?
Do we exist in this “society” for a particular purpose or activity?
What is our purpose?
Our purpose is to look out for ourselves.

To say that we are a society becomes contradictory.
We are so individual focused.
We are not a group.
we are not a community.
We are a community of our own.
But to have a community we need more than ourselves.
We are selfish.

A society of individualism.

We just want us to be better off.
We just want us to be wealthier.
At the cost of others, we don’t care.
Animals at least stick together, but we’re tearing our own apart.
We want to be the last (wo)man standing.
We can’t fathom the thought of standing with someone else.
We may say we do, but the voice in the back of our mind says no.
It’s because no matter how hard we try to fight it, we grew up this way.
We grew up with the message of being the best.

But everything is falling apart and it’s not working.
The purpose was to have a productive, progressive country.
But now it’s backfiring right back at us.
